Here is a link to an article about strike action in the Glasgow locale and beyond. Please click here to read it: Primary schools and nurseries in Glasgow to close during strike - BBC News
All primary schools and nurseries in Glasgow will be closed for three days next month during planned industrial action by staff union members.
Additional support learning (ASL) schools will also be shut on Tuesday 6, Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8 September.
The strike by Unite members includes catering and cleaning staff, janitors and classroom assistants.
Secondary schools will remain open but there will be no breakfast clubs, hot school meals or after-school care.
Do you have any thoughts on union activity? Are you, or have you been part of a union? Maybe you don't know much about unions?

I agree that at times the union need to step in but under the circumstances with COVID and the children missing a chunk of their education I feel that this could have been handled / managed better (thankfully it was resolved)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Marion and welcome to the class blog! You are right, there is never a good time, but it looks like it is partially resolved, suspended at least which will come as a great relief to parents, carers, teachers etc. It opens up the debate about strikes (which take many months to get operating), the role of the unions and much more. One thing is for sure though, and that is, that the public have simply had enough of being treated so poorly in many aspects of society. One wonders what the new PM will make of all this; announcement coming in at Monday lunchtime. Buckle up, everybody! All the best and see you Friday. Mark
